Frequently Asked Questions

  • A boating safety course is required.

  • Yes. One session will teach you the basics. However, instructions on two different days will allow you to experience different conditions and challenges under my supervision. In addition, one of my favorite experiences is being able to bring a boat right to the beach for picnics and exploring. Learning to “beach a boat” is not introduced until our second session together.

  • I have a 22ft 1977 Aquasport named NAUTILUST. She has a 2020140hp Suzuki engine. NAUTILUST is a workhorse and handles waves and choppy water better than most modern boats. She is not fancy but you will be comfortable and there is plenty of room.

  • It is a great experience to learn on your own boat and I am happy to discuss that possibility. Additional travel/time fees may incur.

  • Captain’s call. We will still go out in light rain and wind. Weather is unpredictable on the water, so it is good practice to experience the elements on the boat. We will not go out if there is lightning and thunder or heavy winds. If our time together is canceled we will reschedule for the next available day.

  • You will be allowed to reschedule one time if notice is given 48 hours prior to your booking. If there is a cancellation within 48 hours there is a 50% charge. No refunds within 24 hours.

  • No. Bring your own food and beverage.

  • Dress according to the weather and bring layers. I recommend wearing a swimsuit because you may need to get in the water. I always have a change of clothes for myself and extra items to layer. Polarized sunglasses, water, beverage and snacks are recommended.

  • Yes. Up to 2 people can learn together. There is a lot to cover in the lessons, so both of you should be ready to participate and stay focused!

  • Although there is no certification, it’s my goal to leave you feeling empowered and confident to take the helm for a lifetime of adventures on the water.

kind words

Nackie has always shown to be a skilled and professional Captain on the water. I would recommend her to any person looking to ride or drive with her.
— Captain Arne Bahler, TowBoat US

I am a devoted hair client of Nackie’s and knew even before being on a boat with her that she would provide the calming energy, knowledge, and guidance that I need to have confidence at the helm of my own boat.

She is the perfect combination of a skilled technician, intuitive teacher, and magical hostess. I can’t imagine learning boating from anyone else. She made what was a scary and intimidating experience for me fun, fluid and achievable.
— Adriane Stare, MostPartum

Nackie has been doing my hair for almost 20 years. Being creative professionals, we have collaborated on all kinds of looks and changes.

In our time knowing each other I have also had the pleasure and privilege of her being my Captain on the boat. She has always calmed any anxiety or fear I had and turned it into some of the greatest adventures of my life.
